What You need to Know

Before, During and After Family Constellation

Family Constellations can be a transformative experience, but many people arrive with doubts or not knowing what to expect. If you are thinking of attending a workshop or individual session, here are some tips and answers to common questions to help you live the experience in the best possible way.

Before the Constellation: How to Prepare

The best thing about a Constellation is that you don't need any special preparation, but there are a few things that can help you feel more comfortable and get the most out of it.:

  • Comfortable clothing: You will be moving around, standing or sitting on the floor. It's not a catwalk, so come with something you feel good in.
  • Avoid strong perfumes: Some people may be sensitive to strong odors.
  • Eat a light meal: To avoid discomfort or feeling heavy.
  • Stay hydrated: Drinking water before and after will help you process the experience better.

During Constellation: What Can Happen

If it is your first time in a Family Constellation, it is normal to have some doubts or feel nervous. But here are some things that can happen so you won't be surprised:

  • Emotions on the surface: You may feel like laughing, crying, yawning or even remaining silent. Don't repress it, it's part of the process.
  • Physical sensations: Some people feel hot, cold, dizzy or tingly. It's all part of the energy in motion.
  • Wanting to run away: Sometimes, the mind resists change and makes you want to leave. If it happens, breathe and trust that you are where you are supposed to be.

If you're participating as a representative or observer, you may also experience unexpected emotions and movements. Don't worry, just follow along with confidence.

After the Constellation: Integrating the Experience

When the session is over, the Constellation will continue to work in your life. It's not just a „it's over and done with“ situation; its effect continues to unfold in the days and weeks that follow. This is what I recommend you to do:

  • Drink water: Helps to cleanse and assimilate the experience.
  • Rest if you need to: Some people feel energized, others feel tired. Both reactions are normal.
  • Don't try to analyze everything: Your mind will want to make sense of every detail. Let it flow.
  • Write down, what you felt: If something keeps going around in your head, writing it down can help you let it go.

What if I get hooked on a topic or character?

You may find that after the session you identify with a character or topic and can't stop thinking about it. If this happens, try:

  • Talk to the facilitator about it: If something is bothering you too much, don't hesitate to comment.
  • Take deep breaths: Connecting with your body will help you ground the experience.
  • Take a walk barefoot: Ideal to return to the present and let go of what does not belong to you.
  • Relax: Take a hot bath, meditate, make yoga or simply take a rest.

Family Constellations are a powerful tool for healing and understanding. Trust the process, allow yourself to experience it without expectations, and remember that everything that happens is part of the journey.

See you at the session!
