About constellations

Roles

in a group family constellation

In a group family constellation, several participants meet, and the facilitator guides the process. Here, I explain the role and benefits of the two main roles: the representative and the observer.

The Constellant (client)

The role

In a constellation, the person constellating can have two main roles. Sometimes they participate as their own representative, directly experiencing the movement that unfolds during the session. Other times, they observe what happens while others represent their theme, allowing the images that appear to help them connect with what they need to see or understand. Their main role is to open themselves to the process, express their intention, and let the natural flow of the session reveal important information and sensations.

Main benefits for the constellant

1. Emotional clarity:
The constellation helps to identify hidden roots of conflicts, emotions or repetitive patterns.

2. Personal and family healing:
By releasing inherited blockages or recognizing unconscious dynamics, the constellant can experience greater inner peace.

3. Transformation of relationships:
It allows you to improve ties with family, partners, or other people, based on a deeper understanding.

4. Empowerment:
It offers tools to face life with greater security, purpose, and connection with oneself.

The person performing the constellation, whether participating directly or as a spectator, plays a key role in the process of change. By opening themselves to the session, they gain clarity, release emotions, and gain strength to improve their relationships and their life.

The Representative

The role

The representative is a workshop participant chosen to represent a member of the family system of the person being constellated (the client). Through the facilitator, the representative positions themselves in the space and follows their instructions, tuning into the emotions, sensations, and movements that arise. They don't need to know details of the family history; they just need to be open to feeling and expressing whatever arises in the moment.

Key benefits for the Representative

1. Emotional Connection:
Participating as a representative can be an emotionally enriching experience. It allows the representative to connect deeply with emotions and sensations, some of which may resonate with their own personal experiences.

2. Self-knowledge:
Through the process, representatives often discover patterns or emotions that are also relevant to their lives. This can offer new perspectives and opportunities for self-awareness and personal growth.

3. Personal Healing:
Although the representative is assisting the client, the act of representing can have a healing effect. The emotions and energies mobilized during the constellation can release personal blockages and contribute to one's own healing.

4. Empathy and Compassion:
Being a representative can increase empathy and compassion toward others by directly experiencing other people's emotions and dynamics.

The Observer

The role

The observer is a workshop participant who is not actively representing someone in the constellation. They observe the process, the interactions, and the movements of the representatives. Although they do not participate directly, their presence and attention are important for the energetic field of the workshop.

Main Benefits for the Observer

1. Deep Learning:
Observing a constellation offers a unique opportunity to learn about family dynamics and intergenerational patterns that affect our lives. This learning can be applied to your own family and personal situations.

2. Personal Reflection:
Seeing the process from the outside allows observers to reflect on their own experiences and relationships. They can identify similarities with their own lives and gain new perspectives on their own challenges.

3. Indirect Healing:
Although not actively participating, observers may experience indirect healing. The resonances they feel during the constellation can activate personal healing processes.

4. Preparation for Active Participation:
Attending as an observer can prepare people to actively participate in future constellations. By understanding the process and seeing the benefits in others, they may feel more confident and motivated to constellate their own issues.

Conclusion

Participating in a family constellation, either as a representative or as an observer, offers numerous opportunities for personal growth and healing. Representatives have the opportunity to connect deeply with emotions and patterns, which can be transformative for both the client and themselves. Observers, on the other hand, gain a valuable and reflective perspective that can lead to their own healing process and self-knowledge. Both roles are essential and complementary in family constellation work, creating a safe and powerful space for personal and collective transformation.
